After his plans for rapid expansion and commercialization were in direct contrast to the company's aims, I guess she wrote the paper to highlight the issue.
It seems that, like in the case of Disney, the board has lower power and control than the CEO. Highly likely if you have larger than life people like Sam at the helm.
I would not trust the board, but I would also not trust Sam. When billions of dollars are at stake, its important to be critical of all the parties involved.
