Not buying the David v Goliath tone of the article, they realized Apple and Google owned the market and wanted a piece of it.
At least they're honest about just ripping off OpenSteetMaps and "curating" it.
Hopefully it's not the "curating" that Google's done, like putting up waypoints for the nearest McDonald's.
