Used Coffee Grounds Hold Potential Key to Treating Neurodegenerative Diseases
- gardenfelder 3y ago'Researchers found that Carbon Quantum Dots (CACQDs) derived from used coffee grounds could protect brain cells from damage caused by neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s."
- Terr_ 3y agoTLDR: "Tested a relatively cheap/clean way of making very tiny particles of carbon from what would otherwise be food-waste. Checked to confirm that those tiny particles are still antioxidants just like larger particles are. Nobody knows yet if/how-much antioxidants actually help with all those scary diseases, but... maybe?"
- morjom 3y agoMy mother uses the used up filtered coffee grounds for some of her indoor plants. I can imagine there's something useful for the brain in that aswell. Weird relation to make maybe.
- thenerdhead 3y agoThere was a fascinating article on quantum dots in a previous issue of Science. First time I've ever heard of them. https://www.science.org/content/article/creators-of-quantum-dots-used-in-tv-displays-and-cell-studies-win-chemistry-nobel https://www.science.org/content/article/creators-of-quantum-... This news makes it even more exciting.
