Sam Altman, OpenAI Board Open Talks to Negotiate His Possible Return
- skygazer 3y agohttps://finance.yahoo.com/news/sam-altman-openai-board-open-174023706.html https://finance.yahoo.com/news/sam-altman-openai-board-open-... - Discussions involve Altman, board member Adam D’Angelo, and some OpenAI investors. - The board initially refused to communicate with Altman following his dismissal. - A possible scenario includes Altman returning as a director on a transitional board. - New CEO Emmett Shear is reportedly unaware of the full reasons behind Altman's firing, says privately he’ll resign if not provided info of Altman’s wrongdoing.
- avalys 3y agoHmm, is this a breaking news article from today, or a stale article from Saturday?
- medler 3y ago> That the board and Altman are in communication is a significant development because until Monday, the directors largely refused to engage with the executive they fired Friday, several people have said. Either these people are lying, or the Altman-aligned people who said they were negotiating all weekend were lying.
- skygazer 3y agoI’ve read elsewhere that management at the company and the investors were doing the negotiating. Although I have no idea how Ilya is involved, since he’s both.
- lucubratory 3y agoIt's the latter and I (along with other people) pointed it out at the time. It was part of a media pressure campaign. That shot of Sam with a guest pass? The Board wasn't even in the building that day, he was presumably there at Mira's invitation which is probably why the Board replaced her with Emmett Shear.
- skygazer 3y agoI think it’s just a small recent update covering the last several days. That’s why I called out the several points I hadn’t seen elsewhere in those bullets.
- diamondfist25 3y agoThis needs to be in HBO right now
- layer8 3y agoMaybe the board asked IT support last week what to do about Sam Altman, and they said: “Have you tried turning it off and on again?”
- naveen99 3y agoEven Neuman got a half a billion for abandoning ship of wework. The board members could walk away with $5B each. I wonder if these kind of shenanigans could ever happen at harvard or stanford nonprofits. I mean it happens on the regular with entire countries run by dictators.
