Today we just passed 2C of warming. So possibly we very much do need AGI.
- dave4420 3y agoI don’t follow the logic. How does climate change increase the need for AGI?
- nothrowaways 3y agoAGI is unforseen it might even think humans are the force behind the warming, which they are. Other animals don't pollute like humans.
- dougmwne 3y agoWe certainly don’t seem capable of solving climate change on our own. If we built an aligned AGI, we could just have it invent cold fusion for us.
- dave4420 3y agoWho is “we”? It seems just as likely that an AGI would be put to work persuading us that climate change was nothing to worry about.
- nothrowaways 3y agoThe people.
- dave4420 3y ago“The people” are not building an AGI, mostly don’t have the skills for it.
- nothrowaways 3y agoIn the eyes of AGI humans will be a liability.
