Why Dr. Gabor Maté Is Worse Than Wrong About ADHD [video]
- PotatoPancakes 3y agoFor context: Dr. Gabor Maté is a world-renowned medical doctor, who runs a family practice (as a GP) and a specialist in childhood development and trauma. He has written multiple best-selling books on the topic. However, his views on ADHD (first published in 1999 and recently resurfaced in multiple podcast interviews) are often disputed by experts on the subject. Dr. Russell Barkley is a retired neuropsychologist and clinical professor of psychiatry specializing in ADHD. He is one of the world's leading experts on the subject. This is his video, debating/debunking Dr. Maté's claims about ADHD.
- pas 3y agoFor anyone interested in this guy I recommend this ~3 hour long playlist, pick a video that looks interesting to you and check if you like his style. (It was recorded during a workshop (?) for parents.) https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLzBixSjmbc8eFl6UX5_wWGP8i0mAs-cvY https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLzBixSjmbc8eFl6UX5_wW... or here's an interview with him about adult ADHD - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8zhkDTopTbc&t= https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8zhkDTopTbc&t= and this is for folks with short attention spans! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7lvZtoN8Rqg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7lvZtoN8Rqg
- atcalan 3y agoI can't agree strongly enough with this suggestion. Understanding the regulatory prefrontal cortex role in ADHD is key to getting a handle on the disorder, and Barkley does a fantastic job of presenting the evidence and conclusions.
- atcalan 3y agoThis kind of stuff (Matè) makes it hard for me to maintain composure. Especially Barkley==Ciba Geigy shill falsehoods. Barkley continues to clearly show overwhelming evidence of the existence, severity, and genetic basis of ADHD.
