My iPad connects to the internet quite seamlessly via bluetooth tethering through my iPhone, so I could cheap out and get the Wi-Fi model (and not pay for an additional monthly mobile plan). They could make this even more transparent and seamless, easily, why stick a piece of hardware instead? Because their investment in acquiring Intel's modem division is resulting in an uncompetitive product and they need an excuse to pretend to use it?
