I can't imagine what it will be like to work at OpenAI over the next few months. A massive load of talent has just left, the primary source of investment has just taken exactly what you do and brought it in house. Even if you wanted to stay at OpenAI how can you reasonably believe that MS will continue providing the compute and investment necessary for you to retain leadership? It just seems impossible. It may be that in the medium term this move means OpenAI is going to back to more research focus, because I just don't see how the MS partnership strategy makes any sense as a long term strategy now.
