The Kings and Queens Theory of Fertility
- t-3 3y agoThe economic theories of fertility are all semi-plausible to me, but they just don't hold much water next to the "fear of future"/"blood makes horny" effect. When humans are unsure about the future and whether or not they will live to see it, they engage in many risky behaviors, especially mating. The world is very, very safe compared to 50 years ago, let alone 100 or 200. Murder is rare, war and conquest (slightly) more frowned upon than at any other point in history, life-and-death struggle is not an everyday thing. We just don't often face the kind of fear that makes all the blood rush to the loins anymore.
