My great grandfather (born 1900) related stories about receiving AM 700 in fence wire and a brass bed frame. I was too young to ask questions, but I bet he was talking about the 1930s when it was transmitting at 500,000 (!!!) watts. The family farm was about 40 miles from the transmitter.
