The Seven Meetings You Hate
- turtleyacht 3y agoOne such alternative is perhaps a conference and bazaar model, where folks are free agents wandering and exchanging ideas. Then only relevant people coalesce by definition, and pull in others by virtue of necessity. Managers in this scheme may be anchors at port, stable islands among welcomed chaos, steering proposals toward business impact and funneling resources between moonshot ideals and something sane for accounting. Almost like investors, in a sense. Would this ever happen in reality? Usually there is a hierarchy, a chain of command. Teams organize around products; projects become epics become stories, pulled from the backlog into sprints. But what if your manager is the one who prods you to check out group so-and-so, looking at test automation, or the documentation Special Interest Group (SIG)? Granted, a lot of trust is required and maybe this has rarely happened in corporations. And competition between similar projects may complicate things.
