WaPo needs better journalistic skills.
Rosalynn's idea of deinstitutionalizing mental health entails mass-closing down mental health facilities in favor of local community-based mental counseling also is still incidentially causing a steady rise of mental health outbursts in public to a peak we have never seen before to this day.
The last nail in the coffin was Mental Health Systems Act of 1980 which effectively closed the revolving door of psychiatric hospitals for 950,000 patients, left to the "street" to fend for themselves or be poorly treated at jails and prisons.
Take-home of mental health prescription medicine of 1973 was this the tee off.

- fsckboy 3y ago1973? you are attacking a beloved former First Lady's obituary--obituaries are not generally used for attacking people--for something that happened 4 years before her husband took office when the other party was in office at a time of extremly high inflation and fiscal crisis (NYC declared bankruptcy)? You are questioning her earnest intentions wrt mental health? The 1960s were still a time of shame and warehousing the mentally ill, you can hardly blame her for trying to move forward from that history in a positive way.
