I think you’re misreading the situation. Nobody thinks Sam’s a god. A lot of people now rely on OpenAI for parts of their livelihoods and would like a steady hand. The board’s actions don’t seem fit to govern an HOA, much less an important company.
- joshstrange 3y ago> A lot of people now rely on OpenAI for parts of their livelihoods and would like a steady hand. Well that, in a word, is foolish. How often does HN have to harp on “don’t build on someone else’s platform without knowing the risks”? OpenAI is not the only game in town nor does this change mean the existing products are going to change. If they built on someone else’s platform and bet the farm on future enhancements to make their businesses sustainable then they are all the more foolish. Also there is nothing at all to say things are going to drastically change for those building atop it, we know literally nothing at this point and people act as if the sky is falling. > The board’s actions don’t seem fit to govern an HOA, much less an important company. An opinion based in absolutely nothing. Honestly I can’t believe the number of people willing to jump down the board’s throats knowing absolutely nothing about the situation past rumor. Also just say what you really mean, the board _potentially_ got in the way of profit, the horror…

- vlod 3y agoIt's sad how people have forgotten when developers built businesses on Twitters Api before they shut it down. Google routinely shuts down projects that they deem "invaluable". There be dragons.
- AlexAndScripts 3y ago"invaluable" means "very valuable". Weird, I know.
