Some companies will suffer like those making standard parts in analog and mixed-signal but overall I think US companies will do okay. Most are not manufacturers with fab operations already outsourced and they have wider choice of fabs than their potential Chinese competitors. The downside is that they will lose Chinese OEM customers who now fear to depend on them. This will be particularly pronounced in consumer electronics.

Without the sales in the largest consumer market of the world, the US chip companies won't have the necessary funding to remain 'ahead of the game' with R&D. They'll first lose their lead, and then fall further and further behind the richer Chinese companies. As I said above, the US chip makers are headed for oblivion. The US is plagued by short-term thinking: always shooting themselves in the foot with their zero-sum games.
