The deal with microsoft would not have been necessary, if they had thought about monetization and investments from the start.
OpenAI had a chance of becoming one of the big tech companies, a genuine alternative, which they threw away in pursuit of AGI and then a deal with Microsoft, when they realized that AGI wasn't coming soon enough.
