- supriyo-biswas 3y agoI'm not sure anyone would want to come back to a company after having been maligned as a liar in public, let alone the CEO.
- gardenhedge 3y agoPlus now everyone is very aware of the allegations against him by his sister.
- brucethemoose2 3y agoAnd the company he comes back to would be torn in half. How could Altman work with the leaders who ousted him, and the employees who supported it?
- theptip 3y agoWell obviously Sutskever would get the axe, and you’d expect at least some (if not all) of the existing board to step down so that Altman's faction had a majority. It would be a complete capitulation to bring him back at this point. Unclear how many of the rank and file are loyal to either faction to the point of walking away.
- edgyquant 3y ago> obviously Sutskever would get the axe, That would be a huge mistake he’s irreplaceable. Like it or not OpenAI is his brainchild and any company without him is just another Claude/Grok/Bard and not the source of these innovations.
- gremlinsinc 3y agoClaude is superior in some respects to gpt4, it writes better copy, prose, etc. of all the ai companies vying to run against openai, anthropic I think has a good chance. I jump between Bing, and Claude for different things a lot and everytime I try bard I'm more and more impressed by it's craptitude being funded by Google...
- bnt 3y agoPeople said Sam was irreplaceable and then we wasn’t?
- ivalm 3y agoSam is a salesman, ilya is the scientist. Both are important, unclear what is more important now.
- peanuty1 3y agoI highly doubt he could replicate the success of OpenAI with a new AI startup. Especially without Ilya. Just look at how many successful social media platforms Meta has created after Facebook (0 if you don't count the acquisitions of WhatsApp and Instagram).
- fragmede 3y agoTime will tell where Threads ends up.
- grobamel 3y agoVery telling to see how many VCs are still lining up to give money to this scumbag. This is a guy with zero technical credentials and whose most notable accomplishment was selling out the ML/AI research community.
- selestify 3y agoAs someone unfamiliar with him, please do elaborate or link to something I can read up on about how he sold the community out.
- stuxnet79 3y agoTypical engineer hot take. Altman wields immense influence in SV. Technical brilliance is nothing without the capital (social + monetary) necessary to convert it to useful products.
