As a long time Dropbox client I can only cry at this level of folly. This company is asking 50x the price of Backblaze for a Linux client that just works, a Windows client that is even more crazy than Windows itself, a sync and a crazy amount of user hostile upselling on the website. I think it’s time I’ll find me a proper replacement.
- shortcake27 3y agoAfter over 10 years paying for Dropbox, I replaced my sub with B2 + rclone and reduced my spend from $15 AUD/month to $1.50 a month. Oh, and I don’t have to pay up front for an entire year either. Dropbox is not only the most expensive cloud storage provider, but they also refuse to offer lower tiers. Now, instead of getting less money from me in exchange for a lower cap, they get no money from me and I pay a competitor. I don’t really see how that makes business sense.

- rgovostes 3y agoI went as far as to report them to the FTC for a fraudulent "exclusive offer" that was just a dark pattern to convince you to switch away from monthly billing to an annual paid-up-front membership. Shame on @dhouston and the team. The dumbest part about Dropbox is that when someone shares a large file with me I have to pay to upgrade my account because the shared content is counted against both users' quotas. There's no reason to support this company in 2023.
