This type of stuff doesn't make any difference cause they all have issues, they cope in all kinds of unhealthy ways, and they all know each others issues. They tolerate it and look the other way as long as their own ambitions are not threatened. I don't think anything really works to rein in mindless ambition. You just have to let them fly of a cliff and keep a safe distance so you don't get caught up in it.
