Sam Altman isn't the brains in OpenAI, it is the research scientists and engineers. Just take care of the rest of the company and let these geniuses do what they do, thats the role for the ceo.
- htrp 3y agoGood CEO leadership is critical... otherwise you end up with Google and an inability to deliver on any ML project.
- strikelaserclaw 3y agoi was replying more to "the ceo doesn't have AI/ML experience"
- ignoramous 3y agoSam worked with Andrew Ng at Stanford on ML: https://twitter.com/AndrewYNg/status/1699808792047960540 https://twitter.com/AndrewYNg/status/1699808792047960540 / https://archive.is/pJiF7 https://archive.is/pJiF7

- jejeyyy77 3y agooh 100%, but you need someone to steer the ship in the right direction.
- dclowd9901 3y agoThis is a bit tangential but I feel like the meat of this notion is often misattributed. “You need someone to steer the ship in the right direction.” I think most people can handle the “right direction” part, so it really comes down to just needing _a person_, one person, who makes strategic decisions at a high level. And that’s it. I don’t think Sam is special here. I just think he was the guy in the spot.
- sumedh 3y ago> Just take care of the rest of the company Not many people can do that though
