A person who fills in for a striking worker.
- jeffrallen 3y agoA person who puts his own needs above those of his neighbors.
- recursive 3y agoSo... everyone? I mean, I put my needs above my neighbors, and yet I've never filled in for a striking worker. This is not a useful description.
- HissingMachine 3y agoIs the world really that black and white? An unemployed person got a job, is he supposed to decline because someone else didn't want to go to their job because collective bargaining is more important than having a job?
- jeffrallen 3y agoIn a society with healthy unions and strike protection, there is also a functional unemployment system. Staying on unemployment benefits another month, earning 80% of your previous salary, allows the potential scab to stand in solidarity with the strikers, and would be the moral decision. Not to mention the strategic decision, as there will be real social and employability costs to choosing to cross a strike line.
- olddustytrail 3y agoSure, if you like. I wasn't being judgmental. I was just telling the person what the word meant.
