My home was redone at some point in the late 1990s and I also lucked out in this regard with Cat 5 used for telephony, but easily converted to proper Ethernet. I ended up purchasing a “lifetime” spool of Cat 6 to fill in some blanks, but it’s the optimal networking setup for me.
