Could someone explain what makes this so hard, getting around patents?
- CamperBob2 3y agoQualcomm isn't an engineering company that employs some attorneys. They are a law firm that happens to employ a few engineers.
- 8fingerlouie 3y agoIt's not only Qualcomm. Most of the patents regarding GSM and 3G/4G is owned by the "big 5", being Nokia, Motorola, Siemens, Ericsson and Alcatel.
- plasticchris 3y agoDidn’t Google buy Motorolas mobile phone business to get the patents?
- ksec 3y agoAs if the attorneys understand anything about 3GPP
- 8fingerlouie 3y agoGSM is hard. The specification is somewhere between 9000 and 18000 pages long, and contains A LOT of variables that can be adjusted by carriers. - ksec 3y agoExactly. Even if you exclude all the non- Smartphone usage of 5G or 3GPP Rel 18, it is still 50-100x more complex than Pre-3G era. 99.999% of HN have little to no appreciation of Hardware. And very little understanding of the complexity in WiFi or 5G. We are streaming our face in high quality video in near real time over a wireless cell tower that is simultaneously being used by 10s of thousands of people. And yet all we got on HN was 4g and 5G are shit.
