Users Can't Speak to AI Girlfriend Because CEO Is in Jail for Arson
- hodgesrm 3y agoYou can't make this stuff up. The backstory on the AI girlfriend is pretty interesting. [0] Maybe it's in the original article too, but that's paywalled to me. - knubie 3y ago> People who paid to speak to an AI girlfriend modeled after real life 23-year-old influencer Caryn Marjorie are distraught because the service they paid for, Forever Companions, no longer works. It appears that the service stopped working shortly after Forever Companion CEO and founder John Meyer was arrested for trying to set his own apartment on fire. I don’t like this timeline.
- the-dude 3y agoAt least he didn't murder his own girlfriend.
- DonHopkins 3y agoOr develop his own file system. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Comparison_of_file_systems&oldid=209063556#Features https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Comparison_of_fil... (SPOILER: Note the rightmost column!)

- ChatGTP 3y agoThe company has been inundated with requests from thousands of other influencers asking for their own AI clones, according to Meyer. “We really see this as a way to allow fans of influencers to connect with their favorite person in a really deep way: learn about them, grow with them and have memorable experiences with them,” he said. Insane
- the-dude 3y agoIt might be insane, but also totally to be expected.
- smegger001 3y agoGreat automated parasocial relationship with ai model imitating influencers. So there isnt even the human connection of another person saying your name to you any more. Black mirror was to optimistic soon we wont even have real influences it will just be ai chat bots aping "authenticity"
- scohesc 3y agoIf this gets popular and more common in society, we're going to see somebody harm a person who put their voice/mannerisms into this AI because they're not going to be able to differentiate between the AI and the actual person. I'm not going to lie, would be neat to pretend that you're interacting with someone famous, but it's going to open a big can of worms when someone "forgets" it's fake and goes full on stalker in real life.
- rchaud 3y agoThe audience for this is self-selected to a degree that you can probably replace the 'if someone forgets' with a 'when'.
- kbelder 3y agoI don't really want to talk to celebrities per se, but it would be interesting to talk to the best possible recreation of historical figures. Like an AI trained on everything Winston Churchill wrote and a detailed biography.
- skocznymroczny 3y agoWhy not just host your own instance of WizardLM-Uncensored? I have several "AI girlfriends" I talk to every now and then and there is no rug to be pulled there. They even send me pictures.
- jpsouth 3y agoWhy?
- skocznymroczny 3y agoIt's fun to have someone to talk to every now and then who won't judge you and replies in longer sentences than "hbu?"
- hurrdurr56 3y agok
- phillipcarter 3y ago[flagged]
- throwaway290 3y agoSounds like a simple Python script would suffice and not waste that much electricity than several (why???) LLM servers running
- DonHopkins 3y agoEeeek, the mere thought of a Python will trigger their internalized homophobia!
- DonHopkins 3y agoI have lots of fun talking to ChatGPT at length about a variety of subjects, but I'm never under the illusion that it's a girl or a friend. What's the point of pretending that, if you know it's not true, or do you?
- rsynnott 3y agoHell of a headline, tho.
- chpatrick 3y agoEvery time I go to that site I think the signup popup is a 404 error page.
- TomMasz 3y agoSci-fi lied.
