What a waste of time. If there's 1 thing I have learnt, it's that people PREFER to spend time with their phones.
People might SAY they are lonely, but their actions speak louder. They don't WANT social connection to the degree we think they do.
- andersrs 3y agoIt's like a gambling addiction. All the apps have been designed and tweaked with user engagement metrics to ensure they are as addictive as possible and if the app fails it will be forgotten as users engage more with another more addictive app. Essentially they are dopamine dispensers. Scroll, dopamine, scroll, dopamine. A bit like a slot machine don't you think?
- rnd0 3y agoEven taking the problem at face value, the idea of the WHO being in touch enough or able to avoid tripping over their own feet to actually address the problem in any kind of meaningful way is ridiculous on its' face.

- NoPicklez 3y agoPerhaps it's also worth seeing that the WHO can learn from their research as well? Being addicted to your mobile phone is only a small fraction of what may be contributing/playing a role in loneliness.
- Llamamoe 3y agoPeople who get to try crack cocaine also PREFER it over other activities, they don't WANT to be clean, doesn't this imply it's silly to try to rehab people when it's obviously the best option they've got? Modern electronics and entertainment are hyper-optimized to capture human attention and time. They're not preferable, they're addictive and captivating and humans simply aren't equipped to resist this day in day out. This doesn't mean it makes them happier, or that it's a rational choice they'd make with a clear mind.
