Blue states also tend to be more urban than red states.
- hasmolo 3y agoblue/red is more or less country vs urban. most red states are that way because lack of cultural exposure, driven by isolation due to distance
- giantg2 3y agoIt's interesting how many issues are actually urban vs rural that manifest as blue vs red with some outliers. And how the difference is always talked about in a partisan way but rarely in an urban/rural way.
- warner25 3y agoYes, find a map of polling down to the county level on any political issue, and this becomes very clear. Counties with major cities in red states are bright blue, and rural counties in blue states are bright red. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_states_and_blue_states#Urban_versus_rural https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_states_and_blue_states#Urb... As an aside, that Wikipedia article describes the interesting history of the "red state" and "blue state" terminology which apparently wasn't in usage until the 2000 Presidential election, because broadcast networks previously used the colors interchangeably (even intentionally so, to avoid favoritism).
- giantg2 3y agoI think a lot of people see that, but it seems rare that any debate is arranged in a way to investigate the topic from those two perspectives and the other demographics or situational factors that are related to those locations/environments.
