I agree that most DB instances are grossly underutilized (or abused performance wise). But an "entire company" is a tad crude unit of measure when talking about optimization. Good point though. I've seen companies create a completely new replicated DB instance for every little pet project they start. Crazy. Nice if you're a cloud provider though.
