I think most companies want results. If that comes with trust and kum-ba-ya, that's ok. But, trust and kum-ba-ya without results? Out you go.

- andrei_says_ 3y agoI appreciate this response. Why is trust bundled with kum-ba-ya though? If I am correct in reading this as “vaporware and somewhat a fantastic but unrealizable goal” - is it though? In my experience trust builds solid teams and solid teams deliver better.
- OldGuyInTheClub 3y agoI don't know why it is but it is. Every company now has a mission/vision/culture statement touting trust, respect, inclusivity, innovation, ethics, and similar flapdoodle (dis)embodied by Corporate Memphis grotesqueries. In fact, it is getting harder to find product information on company websites because home page real-estate is liberally sprinkled with this stuff in between some diffuse product blurbage. There may be people within the firms that embody some or most of those things. A fraction of those may be low-level managers. Anyone in a position of power achieves that power by doing the exact opposite of the published boilerplate.
- JohnFen 3y ago> Every company now has a mission/vision/culture statement touting trust, respect, inclusivity, innovation, ethics, and similar flapdoodle Yes, but company mission statements are, and always have been, marketing nonsense that should be ignored. What matters is how things actually are.
- andrei_says_ 3y agoTouting trust by the company is PR. Building trust by the team is daily practice as basic and real and important as the rest of the actual work. I understand your cynicism regarding the often empty words of PR statements.
- JohnFen 3y agoAt the same time, if I can't have some degree of trust in my employer, out I go. This is a two-way street. A team effort. Employers that take the point of view that it's a one-way thing are bad employers.
