Is cross contamination just not a thing in Europe then?

  If you vaccinate the entire flock, none of them end up with salmonella. Not washing the eggs means the outside might have some chicken crap on it, but A) you wash that off before breaking the egg, and B) you're cooking anything the eggshells come into contact with.
