I don't even think "right to repair" is the right framing. It should be "right to modify and use anything" that was sold to me.

- autoexec 3y agoAt this point we're basically just fighting for the right to own property. The right to own the things we've paid for has been taken from us by companies that want to retain control of our devices after they sell them to us. It should be illegal to lock us out of our own possessions. It should be illegal to get us to buy something by advertising a feature and then remove it or paywall it off after the sale. It should be illegal to remote into our property and delete our data. The US is in dire need of a lot of consumer protection laws, but the right to own what we pay for is so basic that it's frightening how quickly it's been being taken from us.
- taylodl 3y agoAnd we wonder why people despise Big Tech...we enabled this dystopian nightmare. While we were doing so Big Money came in and bought our government, bolstered by Justice Scalia's ruling that the Constitution says our government is up for sale to the highest bidder. Scalia also eliminated private property rights too. This didn't happen overnight. It's the culmination of the Reagan Revolution. This is what these fookers were after all along.
