Skiff is rebuilding its macOS app with Swift, Rust fanatics don't agree
- zshrc 3y agoKinda naive to think that Rust could offer superior performance on a first-party platform when it can't even figure out GUIs correctly. Granted you could probably introduce a Rust/Swift FFI for logic/graphics, but that's a lot of work. A hammer works better at hammering things than a screwdriver.
- smoldesu 3y agoRust can be great for GUI programming, when it works. Suggesting it as an alternative to Swift for a Mac-only app is so profoundly stupid that I have to assume it's astroturfing. You're not going to get anything out of GUI programming with Rust that you wouldn't have gotten, for 'free', with Swift. It's like claiming that people are getting mad because video games aren't being written in Rust. Nobody in that market cares; they want an end product and will tell you to leave them alone if you start whining about Electron or other things they consider inconsequential.
