Fetlife ends employment 2 weeks in without giving any reason
[Fetlife.com]
2 weeks in they just told me that they decided to end my employment, without giving me any reason. I had to ask 3 different people for feedback before they've given me some irrelevant bs reason.
Basically what happened is that their senior engineers (and non-senior too) didn't want to help a new joiner get started, so they wouldn't answer any of my questions. The documentation was non-existent, and whenever I would hit the senior engineer up on Slack (the person who hired me), he would just ignore it (happened over 3 times in the course of 2 weeks).
I managed to get everything up and running on my own (lot's of debugging just to set the env up) and would finish all of my weekly tasks by Wednesday or Thursday.
The PM: who's also basically the director of engineering, and also had no previous experience as an Engineer or Manager - was just a UX/UI guy for less than 2 years. When I asked the PM for feedback by the end of week 2, he told me that he couldn't give me any, as he didn't have a clear view yet, and that the next two weeks would give him enough time to see me work. Come Monday, he sent me an email saying that they ended the employment.
Again, I finished all my weekly tasks well before their deadline, working part-time after my current main job. My cadence was in the likes of full-time employees who had been in the company for over a year and were working full-time there, not part-time in the afternoons after a full-time job. And I had to ask 3 times for feedback, before receiving some irrelevant BS feedback back.
Also, they knew that I'd be working part-time after my main full-time job, as they're following a Contract-To-Hire approach.
- doublerabbit 3y agoThey wanted someone who would just get on with it. Not ask questions or badger for them. As harsh as it sounds it's a job of "shut up and work". The reason probably is that they would then be forced to requiring some sort of legal / HR advice. These jobs normally have a hidden clause of three weeks of pre-probation. Essentially where you have no rights and that if they want to axe you they can for any reason. Fetlife is nothing like Pornhub and the underbelly of it is much worse. Adult industries jobs are like that. I to have worked for adult entertainment businesses "meet escorts, get laid tonight" which are all toxic, murky and fraudulent. Having to upload naked model photo's to the gallery side, I could never shake the feeling of cold of the trafficked model. The task of the designer was to Photoshop out the gun silhouettes shadows and whatnot.
