I've only seen them toss the results off as proof of placebo, but they don't seem to interested in determining if the "trip" teaches the patient something that they take along with them for at least a while. Perhaps temporarily learning how to connect with a part of the brain that is normally off limits to them. So, maybe it's not medicinal. It might be more instructive.
