Overall point: agreed, talking to strangers can be a great experience and is the stuff of adventures and stories sometimes. I've travelled alone a few times and the experience always puts me in a persona where I talk to random people whenever I have the chance. I've met people in bars and airplanes, hell I've had some great dates with girls I've met and adventures with groups this way. Its fun, I recommend it. But when it comes to chatting up service people? Meh. It can be fun, but the experience is mixed and its not really why that person is behind the counter. Often people struggle just to make the right order, let alone ask how their day is going.
