XcomUtil
- elromulous 3y agoAw man. How many hours I spent playing the OG X-COM and TFTD. That game was a masterpiece. I also played the 2012 sequel, XCOM: Enemy Unknown, but it (for me) just didn't have the same magic.
- sillywalk 3y agoHave you played Xenonauts? I found it was close to the original, but too slow/buggy.
- Terr_ 3y ago> It is not really an editor and it is certainly not a cheat program. That said, XCOM save files were my first recipe-following introduction to the arcane world of hex-editing.
- simonebrunozzi 3y agoFor me it was editing save files for Master of Magic, using HexFiend I believe.
- phatskat 3y agoMine was diving into the memory stack of LJpegViewer Pro iirc - I had a license key taped to a floppy that had long since vanished, but using a debugger and hex editor to treat any key as valid was fairly straightforward and gave me a real distaste for assembly
- NBJack 3y agoWow, memories. I fondly recall editing the gauss weapon family for TFTD and giving them HE damage instead. I enjoyed using the heavy varient to effectively destroy buildings and turn the pixelated reefs those alien jerks often hid in into well-lit infernos. Good times, and a testament to the flexibility of the engine.
- rkagerer 3y agoI've used XComUtil and it's great, but TIL about the Primitive Hotseat Multiplayer feature/hack. Flexible engine indeed.
- vparikh 3y agoSo many memories. This game was a masterpiece. I spent three weeks missing class (nearly failing my compiler construction class) and broke up with a girlfriend playing this game. Glad they don't make games like this anymore.
- sillywalk 3y agoLove(ed) that game. Always wonder where they get their "recruits", who seem to have trouble with aiming their weapons towards the enemy. There's an open-source & cross platform remake of the engine. You still need the original game assets. Easy to mod - he config files are YAML. https://openxcom.org/ https://openxcom.org/
