I own a model Y and have a cybertruck pre-order. I find it somewhat ironic the same people on HN who complain about scalpers and opportunist re-sellers were outraged at the Tesla policy attempting to curb it.
- barryrandall 3y agoThis "solution" is worse than the original problem.
- happytiger 3y agoThat’s what I’m trying to say.
- vinberdon 3y agoThere is a very thin line separating "scalpers" and "opportunistic investors" and that line moves based on where you are standing.
- fuzzylightbulb 3y agoI own a Toyota Sienna and Volkswagen Golf. Its almost like this place is a fairly open forum where people with radically different views can comment on things.
- happytiger 3y agoYou put that reasonable attitude away before someone notices. Haha. I for one am glad you are here and appreciate this comment a lot.
- jrflowers 3y agoThis makes sense because Cybertrucks will only go up in value in the secondary market. Just like every other automobile there is no combination of events that could cause them to depreciate, so it made perfect sense that Tesla could sue you for $50,000 even in the event that you sold yours at a loss. That scenario is quite literally impossible, so “hodling the bag” so to speak is a privilege worth the fifty thousand dollar charge.
- potatopatch 3y ago> Just like every other automobile there is no combination of events that could cause them to depreciate Other than every combination of events before 2 years ago.. As an example, China may inundate every market Tesla operates in with cheap EVs made from the plants that don't accept western auto component manufacturing pricing given current risk, interest rates, etc.
- JohnFen 3y agoAre you sure it's the same people?
