Why do employers ask 'What was your last salary?'
- hunglee2 3y agoEU Pay Transparency Directive, in force since Jan 2023, will make this question illegal in the EU. Good chance that most jurisdictions will adopt the guidance
- JohnFen 3y agoI've rarely been asked this question, but when I have, I've just responded with what my salary expectation is. It's never been an issue. Once or twice, it's been on application forms. In those cases, I just left it blank. After all, it's nobody's business aside from me, my prior employers, and the taxman.
