This is literally the worst of both worlds: an 8-cylinder ICE that pollutes locally coupled with a gigantic battery that itself has a heavy environmental cost.
Stellantis can say that the range problem is "solved" while proving that even a good solution like electrification can be done horribly, stupidly wrong.
From the related article [1]:
> A gasoline-fueled range extender will likewise be offered on the "REV XR" which Ram claims will be "class-shattering" in terms of performance.
The mind reels to see how the ICE manufacturers continue to deliver precisely what their market does not need.
From the related FA:
> The 1500 REV will come standard with a huge 168-kilowatt-hour battery, but that's only the beginning. The top trim, 500-mile range truck gets a truly titanic 229-kWh unit. That's bigger than the Hummer EV's battery and the long-range Ford F-150 Lightning's battery
168 kWh and 229 kWh batteries... With current battery technology, batteries of this size make no sense at all. The weight of the vehicle will probably be close to 4 metric tonnes.
