Diamonds are still too expensive as long as you can't get phone screens, PC heatsinks and chip wafers made from the stuff.
- oblio 3y agoI imagine they're working on it. But why heatsinks and chip wafers? I know diamond is carbon, but does it have some specific properties except hardness that help with those?
- ginko 3y agoDiamond has the highest thermal conductivity of any natural material. Five times more than silver.
- jfim 3y agoIt has a very high heat conductivity. From Wikipedia: > Thermal conductivity of natural diamond was measured to be about 2200 W/(m·K), which is five times more than silver, the most thermally conductive metal.
- BlueTemplar 3y agoDiamond paste has been available for heatsinks for years.
- Animats 3y agoDiamond heat spreaders are available.[1] Diamond phone screens have been made. Diamond semiconductors are under development, but so far they don't work that well.[2] [1] http://usapplieddiamond.com/products/heat-spreaders/ http://usapplieddiamond.com/products/heat-spreaders/ [2] https://spectrum.ieee.org/this-diamond-transistor-is-still-raw-but-its-future-looks-bright https://spectrum.ieee.org/this-diamond-transistor-is-still-r...
