Aesthetics, when used in a housing market that is a code word for, I don't understand history but I absolutely want to control what everyone does around me. The aesthetics of something was largely functional for the time it was made and then it became something ingrained in people's personality. To hold on to this archaic idea of aesthetics that do not hold true to be functional for the current times is foolishness.

- elmerfud 3y agoFalse analogy, are you trolling or thinking you've made a brilliant point. Pants can be functional regardless of season. Maybe your experience is in your limited area but clothing that covers much of the skin is common in many of the hot areas of the world. It keeps the sun off the skin and can wick sweat away keeping the body cool.
- smt88 3y agoDresses also cover most of the skin. Non-pants are more traditional and more functional in hot parts of the world, like India and North Africa.
- elmerfud 3y agoBut here I am in Indonesia right now just south of the equator, and the women are wearing pants. Not all, but most in the city do and nearly none of the locals wear shorts even to the beach. The point is that your assertion that dresses are more functional than pants is just wrong analogy. Pants offer far more mobility and modesty.
- smt88 3y agoModesty is aesthetic, not functional. Pants have no mobility advantage.
