If they put it in the agreement then yeah they have legal grounds. I believe there is precedent for this as well, I think some of the super car manufacturers do

To stretch the idea to the extreme, imagine they put in, that if you purchase the car, after one year you have to become a slave forever owned by Tesla. There would be no legal ground for them to sue you if you don't "check-in" at the factory after the one year passes.
