Moving from the UK to the US I found the loss of the pound coins to be quite annoying.
I was used to paper currency and coins both having more significant value. A handful/pocketful of change in the UK, where there are 50p,£1, and £2 is generally worth about£5. Similarly cash in my wallet is typically worth £20+.
Moving to the US I found that coins are basically worthless. To carry $5 you need a lot of them. And a small bill selection can be anywhere from $5 to $500. Being all the same size and color makes it even harder to assess quickly.
Of course, now I don't carry much of either and just Apple Pay for everything.

- laurencerowe 3y agoI’ve had the same experience. It was especially frustrating when my previous landlord replaced the washer and dryer and made them payable. A full load took 18 coins (1x wash and 2x dry at $1.50 each) because there are only quarters. Really annoying given it was a $3000/month apartment!
