Knives manufactured from frozen human feces do not work
- jeghsnb 3y agoMasika
- eth0up 3y agoA friend from the east once asked me: "How do you take a shit, in Siberia?" As I hesitated to answer, wondering if it was even possible during certain times of year, he said: "With two sticks - one in each hand - one for the feral dogs and one for the turd."
- benpacker 3y agoSome highlights: “In order to procure the necessary raw materials for knife production, one of us (M.I.E.) went on a diet with high protein and fatty acids, which is consistent with an arctic diet, for eight days…” “Raw material collection did not begin until day four, and then proceeded regularly for the next five days (Table S1). Fecal samples were formed into knives using ceramic molds, “knife molds” (Figs. S1–S2), or molded by hand, “hand-shaped knives”” “We repeated the experiment using the fecal samples of another team member (M.R.B.), whose diet was more traditionally Western (see supplementary online materials)”

- black6 3y agoThis was researched by academics and published in an academic journal. What kind of scholarship does society gain from this? Did no one in the chain take and objective look and consider this unworthy of study, or is the publish-or-perish paradigm so misguided (and worthwhile avenues of study so crowded) that we end up with a paper on frozen shit?
- underseacables 3y agoThe ethnographic account of an Inuit man manufacturing a knife from his own frozen feces to butcher and disarticulate a dog has permeated both the academic literature and popular culture. Knives manufactured from frozen human feces do not work. Would it be impolite to say no sh*t?
- lubujackson 3y agoIf it looks like a shitty knife...
- tomcam 3y agoNews you can use
- porkbeer 3y agoSeems like they got a few key things wrong. From tfa: "which he sharpened with a spray of saliva". At no point did they add moisture or hone the knife. A file was used, and any knifemaker knows well thats not good enough. Seems like a shitty study however you slice it.
- whalesalad 3y agoI’ve been unable to sleep at night thinking about whether or not this was possible - glad I can finally get some rest.

- newbalance 3y agoTLDR; Knives made of shit are shit.

- buttocks 3y agoI am but(t) a knife sharpener.
- sillywalk 3y agoI guess I'll have to think of something else to try this weekend.
- AdmiralAsshat 3y agoIf the only objective is to kill the animal rather than skin it, however, I wonder if a frozen turd could make an adequate shank.
- v3ss0n 3y agoQuality issue. Sometimes my turds are so hard that alone can be used as baton.
- BlackjackCF 3y agoGives new meaning to poop knife.
- qup 3y agomaybe the poop knife could work as a poop knife. the requirements aren't as rigid as normal knife work.
- BMc2020 3y ago(Sadly, I discontinue work on my rabbit pellet gun.)

- signaru 3y agoIt will be interesting to see citations in years to come or if it will make it to "popular articles" in ScienceDirect's front page.
- philshem 3y agoThe article is from 2019 and it has 12 citations so far https://scholar.google.com/scholar?oi=bibs&hl=en&cites=17315240754674471683&as_sdt=5 https://scholar.google.com/scholar?oi=bibs&hl=en&cites=17315...
