Different trade, but a friend is shutting down his building business because he’s too old to keep doing it and he can’t find anyone to help. He just can find anyone who wants to do the work, apparently apprentices just don’t stick around. I jokingly asked the shortest stint anyone had and he said it was only a couple of months ago and it was less than 10 minutes. Showed up on site, he explained the deck they had to build, the kid said he was going to his truck to get his tools, and never came back. A couple of years at trade school and he didn’t seem interested in doing a minutes work. I’ve another friend who is an electrician, with a few dozen people working for them. It’s not as dire as the story the builder told, but he does have similar sentiments about how hard it is to find new people.
