I felt sorry for them when they all ended up unemployed with the diesel mechanics laughing at them.

- KoftaBob 3y agoUnemployed electricians? I have a very hard time believing that, they're in demand pretty much everywhere in the US. Do you mean electrical engineers? Even then, they'd only have a hard time finding jobs if they insisted on living in places where not much construction is going on.
- RecycledEle 3y agoI also found it odd, but these were people who dropped out of engineering degrees to pursue electrician certification and to also get trained in new, green technologies. They spent so much time on one company's green technology, that they could not cut it as electricians. They literally could not wire an electrical panel in a new home. They ended up getting screwed. Only green technology can make an electrician unemployable.

No, it sounds like them not being well trained on the basics is what made them unemployable. You add on the green tech stuff once you’ve mastered the basics, it shouldn’t be in place of the basics.
- notjtrig 3y agoIn the US the solar industry waxes and wanes in certain states due to regulations, discounts and how the power companies treat home solar. States define the ratio of electricians to installers so with the right ratio and availability of work there are plenty of contactors who will hire electricians without expecting any work to be completed.
