About your second point: From what I've been reading on their blog, a large focus of Plasma 6 is making the defaults more sane and simplifying them a good bit. It's obviously a huge challenge to design systems that are simple and polished to understand and use on the surface, but powerful to customize underneath, and I'm interested to see how it will be tackled.
