Met Police Scans Almost 250k Faces Using Facial Recognition Technology in 2023
- mb5 3y ago> the Met’s director of intelligence Lindsey Chiswick said that if there is not a match the image is not only immediately deleted, but is also pixelated Which is it?
- rad_gruchalski 3y agoOr maybe blurred, she has no idea. “Director of intelligence”, fitting job title.
- miohtama 3y agoThere is zero reason to store pixelates images. Has there been an independent audit of police activities regarding this?
- klyrs 3y agoMake two copies. Delete one, and resize the other. Keep the original.
- YuccaGloriosa 3y agoYes, we delete the image...then we make a copy of the recycle bin....there, deleted as promised...legal tell me we have complied!
- k1ns 3y agoHonestly, I am just surprised that the number is so low...
- InCityDreams 3y agoAs facemasks are now considered 'acceptable' (and a few people i know have recently had mild covid, colds etc) i turn off my phone and wear a mask when i go to most definitely shopping centres, sometimes other places. In my part of the world they have - within the last year - put cameras up everywhere, especially at road junctions but not where the vehicles interact, but facing back along the road. Accidents be damned, we need to see where you're coming from. So, mask in the car, too. Random days .
- adhesive_wombat 3y agoThey already don't do any policing with the CCTV already in place. Policing, like schools, roads, healthcare, bin collections, regulatory oversight, all of it, is too expensive to be allowed. Just chuck some AI at it. Best case, one volunteer in an PortaKabin with a laptop can police all of London. Worst case the money wasn't wasted, it went to a good home in some dodgy consultant chum's pocket.
