I sure hope they use some of this money to fix the longstanding gtk3 and now gtk4 bug where pasting a file path into a gtk file->open dialog will result in an error. Keyboard input isn't a priority for GNOME desktop environment but Gtk as infrastructure needs keyboard-first support (even if it's not a default) for accessibility. https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gtk/-/issues/5872 https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gtk/-/issues/5872
- jraph 3y agoStrange, I recently pasted full file in this GTK open file dialog, probably when using Gimp or Inkscape. I would have found this pretty annoying if it didn't work. Just successfully tried right now. I'm using KDE, maybe it makes a different. On openSUSE Tumbleweed.
- superkuh 3y agoGIMP doesn't use the vanilla gtkfilechooserwidget.c and as of 2022 GIMP was still being ported to GTK 3 (it uses Gtk2, so this is a moot point). I imagine Inkscape had to roll their own file chooser too. It's the default one that has been bugged since mclassen broke it in 2014 by removing support for the gsettings to set LOCATION_MODE_FILENAME_ENTRY and forcing only LOCATION_MODE_PATH_BAR. Try it with gedit or some random Gtk3/4 application.
