Can someone explain how would a tumor contain teeth?
- fipar 3y agoWell, TIL what Cystic Teratoma is and yes, it can grow teeth “tissue” (I’m quoting because I know nothing about medicine). I’m fact, the etymology for Teratoma is the Greek word Tera, which means monster: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33231995/ https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33231995/, and https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK564325/#:~:text=Cystic%20teratoma%20is%20the%20most,to%202%25%20of%20the%20cases https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK564325/#:~:text=Cystic.... Scary shit. Edit: removed apostrophe added by phone keyboard.
- Archelaos 3y ago> the etymology for Teratoma is the Greek word Tera It's "teras" (τέρας) ending in a Sigma. Here the Liddell-Scott-Jones entry for this lemma: https://www.perseus.tufts.edu/hopper/text?doc=Perseus%3Atext%3A1999.04.0057%3Aentry%3Dte%2Fras https://www.perseus.tufts.edu/hopper/text?doc=Perseus%3Atext...
- privacyking 3y agoTeratomas can contain any type of human tissue. E.g. a woman can get prostate cancer if they have a teratoma that contains prostate tissue, and that prostate tissue becomes malignant.
