So, like every other webmail then?
- manuelabeledo 3y agoDo you use web based clients to access third party accounts?
- SoftTalker 3y agoWell, you often can do that. Gmail supports adding IMAP accounts, for example. iOS mail app allows it and all that data is synced to iCloud for most people. We just trust Apple isn't snooping.
- babypuncher 3y agoDoes the iOS mail app do that? Every time I get a new Apple device I have to set fastmail back up from scratch with a new app password, even if I restore the device from a backup of an older device.
- SoftTalker 3y agoWell to be honest I don't know for sure. I don't use the Mail app but I had assumed that pretty much everything on the iPhone was synced/backed up to iCloud unless you very deliberately are not doing that.
- Angostura 3y agoIt’s an option, if you turn on iCloud Mail Syncing. Off by default, I think.
- wannacboatmovie 3y agoMany people do exactly this and it was one of the original touted features of Gmail and it's unified inbox.
- erinnh 3y agoThis isn’t even true for every webmail. Some run locally in the browser. Many don’t send the credentials to be saved cloud-side.
- ubermonkey 3y agoRealistically, how many widely used webmails work this way?
- cmiles74 3y agoExcept disguised such that people think it is not webmail. They are replacing a desktop IMAP client (which stored data locally) with a webapp that (it sounds like) copies all of your Google Mail to a Microsoft server. I do think this is a big deal, certainly my expectation was that the New Outlook work alot like the old Mail app.
- pdntspa 3y agoThis smells like clueless users wanting outlook on their phone without wanting to do any set up
