As a swede I have commented it in the other thread (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=38190600 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=38190600) but this is basically a legalized mafia from the unions.
The workers don't want the union, they have better terms right now. They are not on strike. You may then say, well it's because they are afraid but in Sweden most employees are in a union agreed employment contract and it is very illegal to prevent employees from engaging with an union or go on strike like this.
The issue here is that the union wants in because that is how they make money and now they are becoming less relevant because they care more about themselves and their political power which is extensive in Sweden. They don't really care about the workers here in my experience. They exclude members based on political affiliations and make bad deals.
I hope Tesla do not give up this fight and just continues on because this is shit behavior from shit organisations. I like the idea of unions but in Sweden they have completely forgotten what their purpose is.
Everyone who downvotes, please explain who they are fighting for in this case? The Tesla workers are not on strike, they say openly to journalists that they have never had better terms. The people who actually need to be unionized (young people working in service jobs like restaurants) seldom are and is getting exploited on a daily basis in Sweden since there is no minimum wage.
Here is an article if you don't believe me:

- anon23432343 3y agoThis comment is written by someone who is butthurt by the unions because he likes sweden democrates(neo nazi party). So yeah take this comment with a big grain of salt.
- ecmascript 3y agoSo I guess what you're saying is that 1/5 swedes sympathises with neo nazis then, since it's the second largest party? Also it's the largest political party if you count only the people in the unions.
- anon23432343 3y agoIn every population you have around 12 to 18% of right wing people thats normal :) And they are using the same promises that they will never full fill as the other right wing parties in Europe. Its just that people are buying that BS they are telling :) Next election's it will end like in DK ;)
- emj 3y agoSweden Democrats will get more votes next election, they have no responsibilities yet, so can take no blame this term.
- inigoalonso 3y agoProbably more than 1/5.
- piva00 3y agoYes, 1/5 of Swedes are sympathising with neo-nazis, that's not a secret or anything. It might be that a good portion of this 1/5 doesn't realise they are supporting a neo-nazi party because they are voting for them on the basis of other issues but alas, they still support it.
- danieka 3y agoThe unions don’t make any money from forcing a collective bargaining agreement on Tesla. Unions make their money from membership dues, and all workers are free to join, or not to join, a union.
- bitshiftfaced 3y agoIf Tesla can operate in Sweden without having to play the game, that makes the unions worry that other companies may follow suit. That would mean the union would lose power and future members.
- ecmascript 3y agoThey make money from members yes, but no one wants to be a member if they can't utilize their power over companies. That is why they do these kind of stunts. Please explain who they are fighting for in this case? Not the workers because they aren't even on strike lol.
- xkbarkar 3y agoYeah I have the same opinion. This is not workers rights at all, its union power. There are plenty of Tesla workers in Sweden that do not support the strike. In Swedish though https://sverigesradio.se/avsnitt/tesla-strejken-och-varfor-musk-ar-emot-den-svenska-modellen https://sverigesradio.se/avsnitt/tesla-strejken-och-varfor-m... I think its time the interwebs also see that Unions are not all good, many work for themselves more than the workers that pay them. One of the worst , from personal experience, was a modest monthly salary increase but instead we did not get overtime payed. We did have to pay a higher fee to that mafia after that also. Assbags.
- occz 3y agoYou're being downvoted because your comment is 100% lies.
- gadders 3y agoIt's the same in the UK. They are more concerned with left-wing politics (even far to the left of the Labour party) than they are for workers rights.
